Common Musculoskeletal Conditions

Of all the injuries reported by patients, the ones we see most often are usually due to overworking certain muscle groups through repetitive motion without taking care to properly prepare the body for such labor. Conditions such as back muscle strains, ligament sprains, low back pain and neck tension syndrome are the most common ones that we treat on a daily basis.

Still other conditions can be genetic in nature or caused by an accidental trauma to the body, such as that experienced in a car accident. For these, long-term treatment plans need to be made to manage the pain, improve your health and the portion of the body affected by them, and consider possible treatments to make your condition more manageable. These conditions include sciatica, spinal disc degeneration, pinched nerves and herniated discs.

Strains and Sprains

Muscle strains and sprains are the most common injuries that can happen on a daily basis. They usually occur when someone does not use proper lifting techniques to move a heavy object and attempting to do so with your spine bent and taking all of the pressure will result in one or more muscles and ligaments in the back become stretched, strained and injured. It can also happen during exercise, especially in the back, legs and ankles, if you do not properly warm up beforehand.

Thankfully, these are also the easiest to treat, depending upon their severity. Hot and cold packs, muscle relaxing medication, and aspirin to cut down on inflammation will help the affected muscles and ligaments heal in less time, as long as you do not overdo physical activity.

Spinal Conditions

When something directly affects the spine, like spinal disc degeneration, a herniated disc or even a pinched nerve, the pain treatment for these conditions can be more prolonged and will vary according to the severity of the injury. Chiropractic adjustments can be used to treat some conditions, and surgery is usually an option only if it is the only way to correct the musculoskeletal conditions you are dealing with.
